BT will accomplished the superfast broadband network by 2012

superfast broandband networkThe firm revealed that BT will accomplish the superfast broadband network for the Olympic Games in 2012. This offer high speed of 100 Megabits per second (Mbps) using £1.5bn fibre-optic network for the certain customers in order to support high definition video. But this service will reach only 40% of the homes in cities and towns. Initially the company has announced that the programme will get completed by 2013 but said that they are ahead in their schedule to bring their product earlier. The CEO of BT, Ian Livingston said that they are now making the arrangements for four million homes to get the fibre optic broadband network by the next year end. He also added the company targets to offer fibre network connection to 10 million homes during the time of Olympic Game starts.

On using the BT fibre optic cable network customer can have high speed accessing service to their home. But in some areas where the cables in BT owned cabinets it offers only 40 Mbps. Here the areas of fiber to cabinet, homes continued to get connected by the slower copper cable wires. Presently, BT’s rival Virgin Media provides some homes broadband speed of 50 Mbps over fibre, regarding the superfast broadband. The government of UK has said that it requires 90% of the country should avail the superfast broadband connection by the end on 2017 and everyone should have connect to broadband speed of 2Mbps by 2012. And the UK government is also planned to charge the annual tax of £6 for the broadband connection in the rural areas.
